The flood water in Carlow is now going down and many roads that were closed are now open. On Thursday morning it tuck me 45 minutes to go from my house to the FairGreen Shopping Centre but today I could do this journey in 10 minutes as the roads from town to Laois side of town are now open. The big cleanup operation is now starting where people can see the true damage of the flooding to their houses and business. I have spoken to several people who were made homeless by the flooding and it such a sad sight to see people and hear their story about how they have nothing except the clothes on their back. One girl told me she was made homeless, all her clothes were under water, and everything she had was destroyed.

From going around the Carlow town today, the flood water is still high, but there is some hope as there is evidence that the river level is going down. It will probably take days before the flooding will clear.  Carlow county council are building up barriers with sand bags in some parts of the town so that they can pump some of the water out to try and get traffic moving.

With so many roads are closed in Carlow Town that traffic issue start at 3pm and by 4pm it could take you over an hour and 30 minutes to get from the Kilkenny road to Dunes supermarket at the Laois side of the town.

I would like to thank the Carlow Nationalist for publishing some of our photos, but when we went to purchase a copy of the news paper we were extremely disappointed at the fact that the Carlow Nationalist Newspaper was unable to spell "Gaelic Web Design" correctly.

Walking to Carlow town centre today was not easy. To travel from the Laois side of Carlow to the town centre you had 3 choices
1.     by boat
2.     by tractor
3.     or Swim
From speaking to many people both old and young, they all said that this was the worst flooding they had ever seen in Carlow. From travelling up river and down river, what were once farmer’s fields is now part of the river.
